the wb, supernaturalSupernatural star Jared Padalecki may be best known these days for battling demons, driving a cool car, and driving all the young girls crazy, but the young star will be trading his Kerouac from hell gig, temporarily, to portray famous Christmas artist Thomas Kinkade in a trio of films being developed by Lionsgate.

Kinkade is best known for his warm exterior portraits of Christmas scenes. Snow flying in startling white sheets and blowing drifts bathed by warm light, Kinkade's signature style has come to symbolize the ideal for a Christmas firmly situated in Americana. Sure his motifs are as cornball and ‘square' as you can get, but there is no mistaking his influence on the visual definition of the perfect Christmas. Kinkade's portfolio is not exclusively Christmas themed, but it is his staple none-the-less.

In the films, Padalecki will portray the painter in reminiscences of real life events that inspired particular pieces of art from the Kinkade collection. If you are wondering, so far the plots include more than one authentic Christmas miracle, and if you're a gambler, I'd expect even money on the other two also having something to do with Walmart's favorite holiday.

Supernatural, Jensen Ackles, wb, cast What attracted you to the part of Dean?

“You know I was originally supposed to go for the part of Sam and then I read the script and just really liked the humour of Dean. I liked his sense of sarcasm, his crass way of talking to people and his cockiness. I thought I could have a lot more fun with that, as far as the character goes.”

Do you share any traits with your character?

“There are bits of me in there, but I would say for the most part he’s a character. I think he’s a more exaggerated version of parts of my character. With his sarcasm and his cocky attitude he’s just generally a more over the top version of myself.”

What have you enjoyed most about the filming of the series so far?

“All the cool things I get to do. Just last week I had to practice for a scene where I take apart a shotgun and a pistol and put them back together. I had to drive a tractor in the snow and I haven’t driven one since I was a kid. We’ve also driven trucks around on a huge farm. We get to do a lot of cool and unique stuff as obviously we’re dealing with the ‘Supernatural’ every week. It’s all the stuff you dream of doing as a little boy.”

Supernatural, Jared Padalecki, wb, cast What attracted you to the part of Sam?

“I’ve always been a fan of the horror genre such as The X Files and Twilight Zone and when I read the script it seemed to be much in the same vein. It’s also a fun character that I’ve never been able to play, the reluctant hero; the Luke Skywalker, the Neo from The Matrix. It just seemed like a fun character and a fun role to explore. Also I had met McG because I had tested for Superman and I knew David Nutter, one of the executive producers who also directed our first 2 episodes and I was really excited about the prospect of working on the show.”

Tell us a bit about Sam

“For 18 years of his life, he was part of the trio of Winchester boys and he really didn’t want to be, so when he finally snuck away, he was going to university and wanted a normal life. But now, obviously, with the loss of his girlfriend he’s gone back on the road with his brother. After seeing his father he’s gradually realizing more and more that maybe this is what he was meant to do, but he’s still reluctant, because I think he blames both of loss of his mother and the loss of his girlfriend on this journey that the three of them are on, and he doesn’t understand what’s going on. So he’s both motivated by the loss of the two most important women in his life, but he’s motivated and turned off by it. For him it is like, Well, doing this is what caused my girlfriend to be on fire on the ceiling so maybe I shouldn’t do it.” But also, he’s angered by it, so he wants to go avenge them.”

Supernatural, Jensen Ackles, wb, cast OMG. Jared and Jensen are here. Tee hee hee.

And yes, I'm officially releasing my inner teen today, 'cause it's CW day, and it's perfectly acceptable to, like, be all goo-goo-ga-ga over the cutie-patootie stars and shows. (Even though we know adults love 'em, too.)

For the time being, though, it's all about the CW prez Dawn Ostroff, who is now addressing us reporters, and I'm making it my mission to find out whether Ostroff plans on bringing back Veronica Mars, One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls and Supernatural for another season.

Ostroff, on Supernatural: "Supernatural is holding up really well. That is the toughest timeslot on television. Last night it had very, very strong numbers and creatively, the show is absolutely at its best."

Gotta go harass Dawn about picking up our other favorites. I'll be back later with an update from the Supernatural session—and no promises I won't be drooling.

2:35 Update: It's time for those Winchester boys we Supernatural fans love and adore—Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. They've taken the stage, along with the show's producers, Eric Kripke and Robert Singer, to field reporters' questions and heat this chilly room.

Scoop! Tricia Helfer—Battlestar Galactica's smokin'-hot Number Six—guest stars this season on Supernatural! (I wouldn't recommend staring directly at the screen if she's sharing it with Jared and Jensen 'cause your retinas might burn from the heat.) Helfer's episode airs Feb. 22, and she plays a woman named Molly, who is being chased by an evil-looking farmer on the highway. The farmer appeared on the freeway, and her husband swerved to avoid him, and now her husband is missing. Good stuff!
