FanBolt’s Supernatural Season 3 DVD Review

This series keeps getting more and more awesome with each season. Season 3 is no exception.

The yellow-eyed demon may have been vanquished, but that carried a major price; the opening of the gates of hell. After an incredible season finale with Season 2, we were left wondering how the boys would encounter all those demons and send them back to hell. In the first episode of Season 3 (and in my opinion the strongest episode of the season), we see that the seven deadly sins – lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride have been released and have taken human form.

In the same formula as past seasons, we have cases for each episode and we also have the one story arc that spans the entire season, which is how to save Dean since he’s sold his soul to bring Sam back from the dead. As the duo and various allies including the strikingly beautiful demon Ruby (Katie Cassidy), attempt to break Dean’s deal and ultimate death sentence, we learn that there is new threat walking among the living and her name is Lillith. There’s nothing more that Lillith wants than to eliminate who she feels could be her strongest potential competition: Sam. This leaves Sam with having to draw on his powers that we see briefly touched on in Season 2.

Season 3 will leave fans with their jaws hanging as they wonder how this show will possibly take form for a 4th Season. It’s brilliantly written, and while sadly shorter than it should be due to the writers’ strike, it still more than delivers in terms of entertainment and special features (which include multiple featurettes and a gag real).

It’s a modern day X-Files… minus the aliens. It’s sci-fi entertainment at its very best.
